Life's Toolbox and Bonnie's Nursery

We are exited to share that Golden View Elementary School has partnered with an outside non-profit organization, called Life's Toolbox. Since fall of 2018, Golden View has been working with a Life's Toolbox representative, Annette Hatala, on Fridays. She assists our students and teachers in the garden, while offering our students life skills lessons at the same time. Some of the wonderful things they have been doing include:

  • Exploring propagation by planting snow peas and winter squash seeds
  • Transplanting Swiss chard, flowering kale and Dianthus
  • Propagating new succulent plants through leaf and stem cuttings

As of 2019, Life’s Toolbox is visiting Golden View two days a week to offer additional opportunities to our students and staff.

Golden View also received a donation from Bonnie's Nursery with broccoli, cauliflower, winter tomatoes, and some varieties of lettuces. Our students helped turned the soil to prepare the garden for winter planting, which included the donated items and more. Life’s Toolbox members participated by creating signs for all the plants that were donated, so that our students could put them in the garden beds. Students also made straw bale gardens.

Students also created maps of the garden and a task board to help us manage our garden duties.

We are super excited to share all of the wonderful things happening in Golden View's Environmental Science Program as we watch our program grow!
